6,5x55

You can write a whole book about 6,5x55. It got in service 1894 and did recently end its service after almost 100 years in service. The cartridge was created by Sweden and Norway and it has made service in both countries.
You can say that the projectile have lived two life's as the original blunt form from 1894 and the torpedo form from 1944. The military experimented with torpedo bullets already 1910-20. That resulted in the projectiles fm/06 and fm/13 (fm is "försöksmodell", experimental model). That did not result in anything then.
The precision of the 6,5x55 is very good on moderate ranges. Over 600 meters the precision drops. This is the Swedish military's first real all round calibre for many types of guns, e.g. rifle and machine gun.

The green tip ammunition is "not for automatic weapons". It is of low quality in manufacture and mechanical quality. The green tip is the early marking of the projectile, that was later switched for dark blue. The cartridge is made ca 1940-45.

This is a unknown cartridge to me. It is a early experimental round were the case is made 1917 by Marieberg ammunition factory (That does not mean that this round is manufactured that year) It has a blackened projectile. If that is the materials original colour or if it is coloured in that way is unknown to me. It is either a trial smoke trace round, or simply a projectile with a new kind of material in the jacket.

This piece of ammunition shown here has the marking "E", which means that the case is made of brass plated steel. The projectile may also be found made in steel.

This is a high pressure round, a proof load. To be used ONLY by armourers. It's used to test the weapon. The normal pressure in a 6,5x55 round is 3200 atm. The proof load gives 4000-4500 atm. Note the 3 extra crimps at the primer, to secure it at place.

This  inert round is without the typical green projectile that is standard for the modern inert round. The 2 groves around the case is were it should be. The cartridge is "blind", without primer and propellant. The cartridge is made for safe practising with the gun.
This special round marked "VPT 41" is made in Finland for the Swedish government in 1941.
VPT is short for "Valtion Patruunathedas" in Lapua, Finland.
